The original Elite gave you one mission, from the Navy, after your
first sixteen kills. HARMLESS keeps that one and adds more. Five
people on five worlds have work for you. Each one is a few jumps
farther across the first galaxy than the last, and each gives you a
short chain of jobs. When you finish a chain, or fail it, the next
person sends word. You hear it first as a rumour on a station board,
and then as a message when you dock nearby.
This page shows who has work for you and what each job is. It does
not tell you how a job ends. Your own record of what happened is in
the game, under COMMANDER'S LOG on the station menu.
When you take a job, the game shows you where to go. The world is
marked on the charts. When you arrive, the console tells you where
the target is, and the target is marked on your scanner and on your
screen. The console tells you what happens at each step.
The route
The five worlds, in order.
The five jobs
1. The Governor's Missing Ledger
Corvin Thale, the governor at Lave
The governor of Lave lost the export ledger to a smuggler. Recover the canister, then hunt the smuggler down.
Corvin Thale counts every sack of tree grub that leaves Lave, and the count does not lie.
2. The Envoy's Passage
Torvin Adeyemi, a faction's envoy at Rabedira
An envoy at Rabedira needs a truce paper carried to a neighbour. Then he needs an escort to the meeting itself.
Friend of the cause, well met on Rabedira. I am Torvin Adeyemi, and before I name a single fee, I promise you my gratitude runs deep and does not fade.
3. The Vetitice Quota
Ilona Draske, the planning director at Vetitice
Pirates hold the lane a shipment must cross at Vetitice. Clear the lane, bring a survey pilot home alive, then carry the manifest on.
The quota stands, commander. Pirates hold the lane our shipment must cross, and the collective needs it clear.
4. The Forged Harvest
Bridget Calloway, the elected port administrator at Xeer
An Anaconda is forging the harvest figures at Xeer. Watch it without firing, then find and destroy the ship that carries the false papers.
Bridget Calloway here, port administrator of Xeer. The docking fee is due, and the harvest quota is short again.
5. The Colonel's Reckoning
Ferris Adalwyn, a colonel of the state guard at Edle
A colonel at Edle has a manifest to move and a transporter to guard. After that, an Asp is marked for destruction.
Manifest first: sealed transport crates, state guard chain of custody, no exceptions. This is Ferris Adalwyn, colonel of the state guard at Edle.
Side jobs
Every station board offers two or three of these. The same world
offers the same jobs on every visit.
- Krait on the Lane — A Krait is taking ships on the lane. Destroy it.
- The Sealed Packet Run — Carry a sealed packet to a station one jump away. It takes no hold space.
- The Drifting Canister — A canister went adrift one jump away. Scoop it and bring it back.
- Bring Her In Alive — A survey pilot is adrift in a pod one jump away. Bring her in alive.
- Clear the Lane — Pirates hold the lane to a neighbour. Fly it, fight through, and dock there.
- Past the Patrols — Carry three tonnes of narcotics to a neighbour, past the patrols. You are paid at the far end.
- A Gun Beside Her — A Python is leaving for a neighbour and wants a gun beside her. See her into station range.
- Eyes on the Anaconda — An Anaconda is working a neighbour. Hold it on your scanner for twenty seconds, and do not fire.
If you fail
A lost fight does not end a job. Each job has another way to
finish. Whatever happens, the next person with work for you still
sends word.
